Day 7
Half time. The first week is over! And looking back I have to say: It wasn’t all that bad – so far. I feel very well, I have no food cravings, I feel light, content and healthy. And I also had no troubles going back to normal after the excessive food-festival last night.
I am actually looking forward to the second week – swapping chicken for tofu and eggs for feta cheese.
To my surprise I found myself generally thinking less about meals as usual today. Nothing new in the morning: I had black tea with a bit of milk and a whole-grain roll for breakfast. When it came to preparing lunch I was a bit skeptical, because it involved chicken – again. Chicken, chicken, chicken… I am so over chicken. But today it was not the ever-returning chicken breast, fried without any oil in the pan but chicken drumsticks, seasoned with pepper, paprika and chili powder and put in the oven for about 45 minutes. And what can I say? They were delicious: crispy, juicy and very tasty. I can’t complain. At the side I had the standard leaf salad with balsamic vinegar, which hardly gets boring for me – thank God. I’d love to put more vegetables and a few nuts in, but I am okay with it. Dinner was made of another whole-grain roll, two tomatoes and fruit. I mixed myself a little fruit salad, consisting of grapes, honey melon and nectarines. All this plus the obligatory two to three liters of water plus my stinging nettle tea were quite enough to keep me full and happy all day.
I am actually looking forward to the next week. I am glad, there are only seven days left, but still… I am curious about what else is to come. I’ve gone through so many ups and downs the last week. It was such an experience already: From top-motivated to top-frustrated, from headache-tortured to balanced and well, from desperately hungry to more than happy with the amount of food I am allowed to have. My conclusion so far: Detox is not hard for me because I can only eat little. Okay… it’s very hard for the first two days, after that your stomach gets the idea though. Detox also isn’t hard because I have to renounce alcohol for 14 days. It’s hard because I always have to eat the same things! I wish I had a menu with more diversity when it comes to the single products. I would actually embrace the whole idea and would probably do it every three months, because I believe it’s a good thing to flush toxins out of your body and reduce your general food intake from time to time, shrinking your stomach back to a reasonable size. Because let’s be honest. We all eat way more than we need to and our stomachs grow and grow, demanding food that’s not necessary for our wellbeing with the result that calories go straight to the hip. Speaking of… I haven’t weighed myself yet, just in case you were interested. I feel like I have lost weight, I won’t step on the scale before next Sunday though, the very last day of my detox-experiment. To be continued…
