Day 9
Is it Sunday yet? Can we pretend it is? I can’t put into words how much I am longing for this diet to end. Why? Try cold tofu and you will know why!
Condemn me, but I can’t see any harm in adding small things to my menu in order to keep this whole experiment bearable. Is it weakness? Is it cheating? It’s just smart, if you ask me! My motto: Bend the rules and follow-through!
Okay, before anybody starts pointing fingers, let me state: I am not adding chocolate, burgers or soft drinks to my meals. I keep it healthy – I am just adding more taste, that’s all. I indulged myself with more milk in my coffee for breakfast for example and had it as usual with a whole-grain roll. Lunch had to go without any adjustments and was a culinary tragedy: cold tofu is very special – not in a good way though. The English vocabulary doesn’t contain adequate words to express the level of disgust, loathing, disappointment and desperation I felt while chewing on that tasteless mass, accompanied by the standard leaf salad with balsamic vinegar. I remember writing a few days ago, that this salad wouldn’t be able to bore me in the near future. Guess what. We are beyond the near future – I am bored. Definitely, absolutely and totally bored. I will have to come up with something creative for tomorrow’s lunch, no need for a repetition of that sad event today.
Even though I have no side effects anymore like headaches or a lack of energy, I am surprised by the effect of food on my general mood. In fact, good, tasty food makes me happy! And tasteless food respectively the tiring reappearance of the same products has the opposite effect. I made culinary peace with the day at dinner: It was fresh pineapple and yoghurt evening again, both was very good and healed the tofu-scars a little bit. Another highlight was my idea of dessert: Instead of giving in to my fantasies of warm cookies, fresh baked cake, sweet chocolate or the deserted leftovers of Ben & Jerry’s in my freezer (yes, still calling my name – under tears by now, I believe), I had fruit tea. Turkish bazar is its colorful name, coming with a sweet aroma of figs, apples and cinnamon. Seriously – how easy has it become to make me happy? To be continued…
