Day 13
Cheating day! In small doses, but still. Has apple-gate started something? My discipline has seen better days, my will power has reached its limits – I can’t wait for all of this to be over. The only reason I made it through the day was the prospect of eating whatever I wanted for dinner.
Breakfast was meant to be just hot water with lemon – couldn’t be bothered, so I had coffee and milk. Lunch was unspectacular, but I stuck to the rules and obediently held on to my whole-grain roll with two tomatoes and two eggs. Since I was sitting on the train while eating, I distracted myself with the beautiful landscape, enjoyed the first rays of sun in months and dreamt of dinner. I had a date in my hometown with my two sisters in the evening and the place where the culinary magic would happen was a restaurant with German and Mediterranean cuisine. But before, I spent the afternoon food-shopping with my dad in regards to tomorrow’s breakfast. And what can I say… After two weeks of detox a trip to the market was like taking a child to the play store! I nearly cried tears of joy in front of the cheese stall while my father bought beer-cheese, hay-flower-cheese, goat cheese with honey and many more… We stopped at the bread stall, several fruit and veggie stalls, antipasti stalls, meat stalls, cake stalls, a jelly stall and finally the sausage stall – I nearly fainted! This was just heaven. I took the vegan mortadella as a side blow though – it just didn’t fit in the line with smoked ham, grilled ham, walnut salami and the softest, top of the notch Parma ham.
Anyway, let’s skip right to dinner: the restaurant was fantastic and after learning the menu by heart I eventually decided on potato-spinach-gratin with feta cheese and cashew nuts. And because water would have been a culinary insult I chose a glass of Merlot. Yes, I did. And I don’t regret it. Funny side effect: I was tipsy right away. The alcohol of just one glass of wine accomplished what would have taken three just two weeks ago. An interesting development. Sadly no dessert though – due to the good German portions I feared to burst. At the end of the day, what can I say? I am in high spirits because: once a cheater, always a cheater. Can’t wait for breakfast. To be continued…
