Just Me and My Higher Self
© Alfred Aloushy
Several people have recently asked me what the Higher Self is, so I thought to elaborate a little on it. I will explain the Higher Self and outline the benefits of why you may want to develop a relationship with your Higher Self.
Let me start by saying that your Higher Self is an aspect of you, not something apart from you or outside of you. It’s a very subtle energy within. If you really want to know anything about your life, ask your Higher Self.
Distinguishing Higher Self
Your Higher Self resides within your energy field, but so do all aspects of you, so what is different about it?
If the ‘lower’ self, which can also be described as the ego self, is mainly concerned with the material, your Higher Self takes a larger perspective.
The Higher Self is unconditional. The perspective of the Higher Self doesn’t hold duality or polarity, nor does it distinguish between right or wrong. This is important to know as it gives you a clue as to whether it is truly your Higher Self that is instructing you or the ‘lower’ ego self. I say this because I don’t think I am alone in having conversations with my ‘lower’ self. Criticizing yourself is one way your ‘lower’ self may speak to you. Over the years I have developed the ability to converse with my Higher Self, especially when I seek guidance and when making important decisions in my life.
Your Higher Self is energetically attuned to you and your surroundings. It not only understands you but also reads the energetic signatures – i.e., the frequencies – of other humans that you are in contact with.
Everyone’s energetic signature, or frequency, informs how that person perceives reality, and so it can be that our ideas of reality clash with those of certain other people. Then, what is important to understand is that as far as Higher Self is concerned, everyone’s reality is OK and everything is fine just as it is. Your Higher Self will not push you to prove yourself. It will always be gentle, compassionate, and calm as it expresses itself.
Negative self-talk, on the other hand, can be traced back to ego, trust me. It will zoom in on what you need to do in order to improve your ‘position’ in life, whether it is buying the next big thing or leading you to believing that you cannot do without xxx. Given our long-term conditioning of our self-talk, this may not be apparent to you at first sight.
I assure you, that if you sit with a particular topic of an inner conversation with your Higher Self, you will conclude this:
Your Higher Self always has your very best interest at heart.
Correctly Interpreting its Messages
Understanding just how expansive the awareness of the Higher Self is we need to be clear about whether it is indeed the guidance of the Higher Self that we are tuning into at any given moment. We must also improve our fluency when it comes to correctly perceiving these messages. How can we be sure we got the message correctly?
Firstly, it is about developing our sensibility to know that the Higher Self wants to communicate with us. This has to do with trusting that what is ‘coming through’ is important. But often we cannot hear our Higher Self. As already mentioned, this is because we are so used to the voice of our ego. Imagine the ego as notifications of an app that keeps running in the background, at the back of our mind. The apps are always running, following you without you being aware. The ego does the same. Its job is to keep you in your drama.
You can free yourself from your ego and tune into the voice of your Higher Self
The first step is to get accustomed to ‘tuning in’ for which there are various practices.
Secondly and equally important, make sure you are ‘hearing correctly’. There are also techniques that can be applied to help you do this. As always, practice makes perfect.
When & How to Connect with Your Higher Self
You can ask for support of your Higher Self when navigating difficult conversations with people. Let’s say you have a disagreement with another person at work and your ego is bruised. Your ego might guide you to act in a way that gives an instant reward of feeling good by convincing you that you are superior and have won the argument. On the other hand, if you listen to your Higher Self, it will point you in a direction that offers optimal growth and reward, as seen from a larger and longer-term perspective. You can look at the first scenario as instant gratification (letting off pressure) vs. developing a more harmonious and peaceful passage through life.
It can change your entire life when you allow your Higher Self to guide your life.
When it comes to how, in my experience it is most efficient to connect with my Higher Self through a particular part of my body, like a conduit.
Not only is it useful to have an intimate conversation with your Higher Self at home, sitting on the meditation cushion, but the search for your Higher Self should be encouraged throughout the day. I consider it as the most important relationship you want to cultivate.
Here is a technique that has proved helpful to me:
Move your attention and awareness into your body. If possible, close your eyes to do so.
- Focus on your breath. Connecting with and following the breath rather than your thoughts allows you to remain grounded instead of getting lost in your imagination.
- Next, aim straight for the 4th energy center, also called the heart chakra, located in the center of your chest. This step is important because if not done deliberately you will likely remain in the head and that’s where ego resides. Yes, the head is a part of the body, but it is an area more concerned with the mental and more linear, with restricted thought processes guided by your beliefs and conditioning.
- You will know that you have fully entered the body with your awareness when you feel any prevailing tension, concern, stress, or confusion dissolve. You are already much more in the proximity of your Higher Self. Relaxing inside your body, there is a feeling of ‘here I am’.
- Actively call in your Higher Self. Although we’re in a sense already attuned and aligned, it is important to give the clear command to the Higher Self to ‘take over’. This is the surrender part, telling your Higher Self that ego will step aside. If it seems a bit strange or difficult, speak it, quietly to yourself or aloud, depending on the circumstance: “I allow you, Higher Self, to take over and guide me. Please be the eyes and voice and the ‘beingness’ of this conversation/situation. My ego personality is now stepping aside. I trust you. I let go and you take over. And so it is.”
In short: Follow your breath, drop into the 4th energy center – your heart consciousness, relax and know you are connected. Actively call Higher Self in by allowing it to take over.
It’s imperative that you stay connected to your breath throughout. Especially if you have a tense conversation or a difficult situation to deal with, it could suddenly get heated or emotionally difficult and you may find yourself back in your head without even noticing.
On the Highway to Self
One of the best things about connecting to and being guided by the Higher Self is that it is a more effortless state of being. Higher Self has all the knowledge and always works in your best interest.
Another thing is that, as you develop the ability to ‘be as Higher Self’, you are on the road to being the observer – always – whatever situation you find yourself in. This is a much less reactive state. You will learn much from seeing others around you react and act out. With time there will be less of ego left in you to jump back into old and self sabotaging patterns. It might seem to evolve into an empathic pushover but do give it some time and I assure you that you will see the benefits positively influence your life as a whole.
If you wish to join me on a 4-week experience, you will learn how to connect to your Higher Self and how to ask questions and receive answers. In session 1, you will learn how to prepare to connect with your Higher Self. You will explore your beliefs around channelling to clear any blocks. In sessions 2, 3 & 4 you will deepen your connection with your Higher Self, practice asking questions, and become more open to receiving answers. We will also soul journal (write) together and listen to insights from others in the group, allowing you to further deepen your union with Higher Self. If you are interested, get in touch with me HERE.
P.s.: Daily writing – also known as journaling – is a powerful tool to go beyond your conditioned mind to receive answers and guidance from your Higher Self. It allows you to access the blueprint of your soul and gives you insights into your life and who you truly are.
Love to you and your Higher Self,
Claudia
