Having problems with insomnia can be quite overwhelming.
We all suffer from time to time from various kinds of sleeping problems. No matter how tired we are, we struggle to get to sleep. Or we wake up in the middle of the night and lie awake for hours, unable to fall asleep again.
Insomnia impacts our energy and mood levels. Consequently, it takes a toll on our ability to function during the day.
World Sleep Day
Anxiety, stress, and depression are some of the most common causes of chronic insomnia. This can contribute to serious health problems. Conversely, having difficulty to sleep can also make anxiety, stress, and depression symptoms worse. By this way, the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society organizes every year an event aimed to celebrate sleep. It is a call to action on several sleeping problems and issues related to sleep. This includes medicine, education, social aspects and driving.
World Sleep Day is held on Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox and aims to reduce the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. By addressing the underlying causes and changing some daily habits and sleep environment, everybody can put a stop to the frustration of insomnia and get a good night’s sleep.
Improving Your Quality of Sleep
If you are looking to improve the quality of your sleep, you want to tackle the cause of insomnia rather than the symptoms. Reset the circadian rhythm and rediscover the harmony and serenity of peaceful restorative sleep.
The flow of QI, the vital energy, can be destabilized by insomnia and sleep disorders.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, insomnia and other sleep disorders are the result of an imbalance in the vital energy, the so-called QI. In the human body, there are two energy phases. When one of these two is altered, a local accumulation in the head may occur, which must be resolved to get optimal sleep. Try sleep-improving energy massages to stabilize the flow of energy between body and head.
Ancient Chinese Medicine experts were used to believe the energies of the earth penetrate the soles of the feet in their initiation journey towards the heavens. Like for the head, localized disorders can often alter the correct flow of energy with drastic consequences, including a specific deficiency that hinders a restful sleep. Therefore, massaging the plantar area helps to restore the harmony and serenity needed for a peaceful sleep.
Altering Lifestyle Choices
There is a lot you can do by just tiny tweaks in your lifestyle choices to prevent or alter severe sleeping disorders.
It is recommended to switch off the phone and other electronic devices at least one hour before sleeping. Also, drinking herbal tea before bedtime helps to relax and prepare for restorative sleep. Look for ingredients that have a sedative effect and reduce the stress and anxiety that plague insomniacs, like chamomile, valerian, lavender and lemon balm.
During the day physical exercise like practicing pilates, yoga or stretching and relaxing muscles is recommended to tire out the body.
