How to Increase Your Intuition

How to Increase Your Intuition

Humans are incredibly beautiful creatures with complex mental processes.

We have the ability to love and hate, be empathetic and narcissistic, kill and create. All of which are affected by instinct, our innate reaction towards stimuli. This is something we don’t have control over, yet everyone is born with it. Similarly, each and every one of us has been blessed with intuition, our ability to understand something without using logical reasoning. But, why are some people more intuitive than others? Well, it comes down to a mix of genetic makeup, conditioning and spirituality.

Signs that you are highly intuitive. You…

Listen to your inner voice.

You hear your mind talking, you listen to it and you act accordingly. If you feel something is right you are quick to take action and are weary when something feels off.

Value alone time.

Rather than gawking at the thought of solidarity, you embrace it. You aren’t afraid to be alone and you find it to be the best time to tackle life’s tasks.

Have a high level of creativity.

You set aside time to read, write, create and reflect. Your hobbies consist of activities that exercise the right side of your brain.

creativity

Practice mindfulness.

You find time for meditation and yoga. You are in tune with yourself because you value learning and self-discovery.

Are very observant.

You don’t walk through life with a clouded lens, and are rather aware of your surroundings. You are cognizant of what’s taking place around you and give thought to actions taken by others.

Listen to your body.

You have a strong mind-body connection and are conscious of the things that either positively or negatively affect you. You practice health and fitness tactics that benefit your wellbeing.

Deeply connect with others.

New relationships come easily to you and you take the time to nurture existing bonds with those in your life. You seek out thought-provoking, engaging conversations and surround yourself with others similar to you.

socializing

Pay attention to dreams.

Rather than dismissing the wonky events that take place in your mind during sleep, you dig deeper, trying to find meaning in the chaos.

Enjoy lots of downtime.

You are a busy bee, but equally designate time to relax. You partake in activities like reading, drawing and listening to podcasts to detach from your sometimes overwhelming external reality.

Let go of negative emotions.

When negativity overwhelms, you are able to clear your energy field and block out thoughts that no longer benefit you.

Some thoughts on how to increase your intuition…

Keep a journal and write down your thoughts.

Journaling will help you open your unconscious mind. You may sometimes find yourself jotting down words that have no origin or meaning, but this could be your mind’s way of processing. Embrace it, let out those thoughts to allow room for the new. Practice logging your dreams, there is much we can discover from our unconscious mind. Pay attention to the signs, maybe the universe is trying to tell you something.

journaling to increase intuition

Not too long ago, I kept having a reoccurring dream about a ceiling fan. Yes, a standard looking brown ceiling fan. You can imagine it was difficult for me to find relevance in this message. When I explained it to my sister, I realized that the ceiling fan I was describing was the one in our grandmothers house. My sister asked “when was the last time you talked to grandma?” That was when I realized that it had been months since I had spoken to her. I immediately picked up the phone and gave her a call and she repeatedly expressed how much she’d been missing and thinking about me.

Whether this was universal magic or a deeply rooted internal manifestation, it certainly served as a wake up call and allowed me to take action.

Don’t criticize yourself and listen to the voice within.

Visualize what you want and reach for it.

Chances are that if you have a strong feeling about something, your intuition is trying to send you a message. Our thoughts are powerful, and with the right intention, can have the ability to shape our future. Surround yourself with others that support you and encourage self-exploration and expression, rather than bring you down.

Put down your phone and take part in the world that’s moving around you.

Engage with others and actively seek out new and exciting opportunities for growth and discovery. If you challenge your brain and standard way of thinking, you’ll unlock doors to endless learning possibilities. Try being especially present in your everyday life, explore your senses and make new associations.

Spend time in nature and reflect on the influence that the earth has had on your life. Grounding yourself in the natural world is a great way to connect with your higher power.

Create!

Find whatever creative device suits you, or experiment with many, and have some fun. Sometimes words aren’t our direct access to the brain, maybe you discover that visual representation is your form of self-expression.

Keep in mind that art should be just that, a way to express yourself with no judgement from yourself or those around you. Find a space where you can allow your creative thoughts to flow without any external influences. Take chances and try new things, who knows you may end up tapping into a part of your psyche that you didn’t imagine were possible.
