Food for Healing – a New Perspective

Most of us look at food as a source of nutrients to nourish the body. We eat 3-4 times a day. Yet we are not mindful of what we eat and how we eat in our modern busy lives.
Consuming food with ‘Prana’ gives extra nourishment to the body.
Going deeper into the field of naturopathy, I started looking at the food we eat as much more than just sustenance. I came to understand all food contains a life force called “Prana”. An awareness of the right eating and cooking habits helps preserve this life force. One may start to realize and appreciate the inherent healing properties of food.
Thy Food is Thy Medicine
This paradigm shift, of looking at food as medicine, happened because of my exposure to naturopathy and especially meeting DR S.N Murthy who is a pioneer in this field with 45 years of experience. For every disease naturopathy doctors look at natural and organic foods for their healing properties. For every disease the food protocol is carefully designed and put forward from a healing perspective. It is with a sense of wonderment I look, when day after day people are healed by what they eat. Especially with lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension etc which have become so prevalent these days.
Naturopathy (Nature Cure) firmly believes ‘Thy Food is Thy Medicine’ and as such treats chronic diseases with food in combination with natural therapies like hydrotherapy, acupuncture, massages, packs etc. There are about 85 such natural therapies. Naturopathy also works on the principle of body’s ability to heal itself, not to just suppress the symptoms but to detox and treat the underlying cause.
It is imperative that we understand our gut and ensure its smooth operation.
The latest research on gut biome shows that the food we eat impacts our gut health and our gut health is a big part of determining overall health. From energy production to hormone balance, skin health to mental health, and even toxin and waste elimination. Our gut breaks down food and absorbs nutrients for all these functions.
Naturopathy
Naturopathic cleansing with enemas, colon hydrotherapy in a naturopathy resort such as Pema ensures a healthy gut. Along with, the food prescribed by our doctors rebalances the gut biome.
Listening to our body is the first step to awareness.
Our bodies continuously give out signals telling us when certain foods work well for us and when they don’t. This communication can be our bowel movements, hunger grumbles bloating, energy levels and many more.
We at Pema, a naturopathy resort take particular care to look at food holistically- for its nutritive value as well as for its healing detoxifying and rejuvenating properties.
That health food cannot be appetising and a gastronomic delight as well seems a misnomer. The images say it all!!
