For each and every one of us, our homes should be our safe-havens. A place where we feel relaxed, at peace, and safe – our personal sanctuaries.
If you’re struggling to make your living space as serene as you’d like it to be, don’t worry we’ve got your back.
Decorating and designing your living space in a certain way can make it look and feel more serene. If you’re in the market for decorating ideas, you’ve come to the right place. Here are 5 tips for creating a serene living space.
1. Declutter and clean
You can’t expect your living space to be serene if it’s cluttered and messy. The first big step in the right direction would be decluttering and cleaning.
Every single thing should have its designated space. Make sure you organize your space so that it’s convenient for you. If you know where everything is and where everything should go, you won’t make a mess looking for it and you will be much more inclined to put it back in place.
Only the items that are used frequently can be out in the open. Everything else should have its place and it should be organized so that it makes sense to you. Additionally, organized spaces are easier to clean and keep clutter-free.
2. Neutral palette
After everything has been cleaned and organized, you can think about design and decor. When trying to create a serene living space, opt for a neutral palette. A neutral palette is much more relaxing and serene and it’ll give you the feeling you’re going for.
The neutral palette includes muted colors such as whites, grays, beiges, and colors similar to those. You’ll immediately notice the feeling that neutral colors emanate.
3. Bring the outdoors in
There is nothing as soothing and serene as being in nature. However, since we can’t spend all our time outdoors, we can do something to bring nature into our homes.
Probably the simplest way to bring nature into your home is with plants and flowers. Invest in indoor plants or always have a fresh flower bouquet displayed in your living space.
Plants, in addition to beautifying our spaces, also purify the air. They boost oxygen levels by absorbing harmful air pollutants such as carbon dioxide. And not only that, plants improve our moods and make us more productive.
But that is not the only way to bring the outdoors in. You can bring your home closer to nature by using natural materials for flooring, furniture, décor pieces, and so on. For example, you can install natural timber flooring in your living space, you can invest in furniture made of natural materials such as wood, glass, metal, stone, and so on.
There are always opportunities to bring nature into your home and create a serene and relaxing place.
4. Utilize light
Natural light is everything when we want to create a space that feels calming and peaceful. Open up your windows, remove unnecessary window treatments and simply let natural light in. However, not everyone has the ability to use natural light to their advantage.
Instead, you can utilize other light sources to help you create a calming and serene living space. Forget those bright overhead lights, instead, use ambient or task lighting to create the relaxing vibes in your space.
Decorate your living space with floor lamps, sconces, pendant lights, or even desk lamps. Not only are these types of lights more decorative, but they will also give more light and make a room feel brighter. And bright rooms are much more inviting and welcoming.
5. Scent the air
Another way to make a room feel serene and inviting is with a scent. Scents play a very big role in our everyday lives since they’re connected to our memories, emotions, and even health and care.
To make your living room feel serene and relaxing, you can use essential oils and scented candles, sprays, or even fresh flowers. Lavender, eucalyptus, and camomille are some of the most popular scents used for relaxation. They have the power of helping you release the tension, soothe racing thoughts, and help you unwind and relax after a long day at work.
As you can see, it doesn’t take much to make your living space serene and relaxing. All you have to do is declutter it, make it more neutral, maybe bring a bit of nature in, and voila, perfectly tranquil space and in your home.
