How to Become Confident in Your Intuitive Abilities
© Hanny Naibaho
I know from experience what it’s like to struggle with confidence in my intuitive abilities. This is because I was not always a psychic medium. Up until the age of 31 I was a complete skeptic. It was one life-changing experience that pushed me into the spiritual realms and opened my intuition.
Shortly after my grandmother passed away, she showed up in my living room in spirit form. I was stunned to say the least. Frightened might be a good word for that moment. But since it was her, I was eager to try and connect. More importantly I wanted to discover if what was happening to me was real or not. Yep, I was skeptical.
Over the next two years I learned a lot about intuition. As it grew stronger, my perspective on intuition in general changed. What I learned helped me with building that confidence in my intuitive abilities.
What Intuition is and What Intuition is Not
- Strong intuition is not reserved for the special few. It is naturally strong in each and every person.
- Intuition is not something we gain more of if we practice more. It is something that is already within us that simply needs to be uncovered.
- We are not at the mercy of our intuition sending random messages. We are able to call on our intuitive abilities when we need it.
With that said, there are some steps we can take to increase our confidence with our intuition. Some of these steps are simple and some are more challenging. It’s all about how much you put into your intuitive flow.
Let Go of the Mysterious
Many of us have seen the celebrity mediums on television. Watching someone else be able to share amazing, accurate messages can make a person feel like what they are doing is special.
Like highly accurate intuitive information only comes through to certain people. It can feel unreachable for someone who has not trained their intuitive abilities. But it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Strip away the glamour and know that the only difference between the strength of your intuition and theirs is they have worked hard to hone their intuition. They have taken the steps to learn how to access their intuition with ease. When you focus your attention on opening your intuition, messages will soon start to fall into place as well.
It Takes Time
Strong intuition, with the most extreme cases set aside, does not open overnight. The reality is that the most impressive intuitives out there have been working with their intuition for years. Because intuition is not a cookie cutter tool, each person’s intuition is amazingly unique. It takes time for that unique intuition to develop into the open channel you wish it to become. It happens, it does. But it takes time.
Personally, it took me a good two years to feel confident in my abilities. Now, I went from being a solid skeptic with very little support around me to a professional medium, so I had a slightly higher hill to climb. Also, I tend to want to do something very well if I’m going to do it at all, so the bar I set for myself was high. But I’m a great example of what happens when you give yourself time, patience, and focus. With those three things on your side, you will learn the ins and outs of how your intuition flows faster than if you struggled with frustration and impatience.
Declutter Yourself and Your Environment
One of the best things you can do for your intuition is to declutter. Think of every thought, issue, mess you have around you and in your life as one hamster on a hamster wheel in your mind.
Take a moment to really think about that. How many hamsters on hamster wheels are in that head of yours? If you’re like most people, there are many. And we are asking intuition to flow through that cluster of spinning little hamsters.
Every item you can straighten out in your life is one less thing on your mind. Intuition is like the shy sibling sitting in the back of your head wanting to speak but doesn’t because there is too much chaos. Declutter your living space, your to do list, and your mind and watch as more and more intuitive messages come through.
Retrain Your Doubt
In the SAGE Method course, I teach students how to retrain their doubt with something called a No Doubt Notebook. It’s not a fancy notebook. You can start one from any old journal and it’s simple. Record any strong intuitive moments you have in this notebook. When you feel doubt creep back in, open it up and read your past entries to remind yourself it is real and you do have strong intuition.
Our minds work in patterns and habits. If we have years under our belt of doubting our intuition, our mind will continually fall back to that, even after a powerful accurate moment of intuition happens right before our eyes. Reviewing your intuitive wins in the notebook helps your brain to let go of the doubt pattern.
In summary, be patient, create a No Doubt Notebook, know that intuition is a natural sixth sense for everyone, and declutter.
