Mindful Transition Into the New Year: an Exercise
© Liane Metzler
The year 2017 is almost over and we are about to transition into a New Year. As things usually quiet down over the holidays, it is a great time to reflect, integrate and, of course, celebrate! But how does a mindful transition into a new year work?
Seven Steps for a Dharmic Completion of the Year
As an expert in holistic self-development, healer and mindfulness coach, I would like to share my Seven Steps for a Dharmic Completion of the Year with you. All you need for this exercise is a quite, cozy place, a pen and paper.
Choose a time when you know that you can commit a few minutes of each day for seven days straight in order to achieve a mindful transition.
Day 1: Overall reflection
Write down the significant experiences of each month, from January to December. You may include some insights that are relevant to you at this time. After completion take a few minutes to meditate with compassion and gratitude.
Day 2: Evaluation of your resources and wellbeing (Earth Element)
Write down how you managed your resources of time, space, energy and finance throughout the year. Also, observe how your health and discipline has been. Write down your observations and what you can learn from them. After completion take a few minutes to meditate with compassion and acceptance.
Day 3: Flow of your relationships, channeling your emotions (Water Element)
Write about your relationships with your family, your friends, co-workers, as well as with the environment, the community and yourself. Take some time to observe how your intuition has been and what you have learned in regard to emotional intelligence. After completion take a few minutes to meditate with compassion and love.
Day 4: Motivation and self-confidence (Fire Element)
Contemplate if your self-esteem has been healthy and balanced. Observe if you took action to nurture your heart’s calling to follow your dreams and inspirations. Make notes of your findings. Take a moment to connect to your heart space and feel the intensity of your internal fire. After completion take a few minutes to meditate with compassion and acceptance.
Day 5: Mindfulness and perspective (Air Element)
What are the main lessons that you have learned this year? Have you explored new cultures and opened your mind to new perspectives? Take notes, reflect with clarity and take a few minutes to meditate.
Day 6: Time for integration (Element Ether)
Write about, or draw a collage that reflects your experience of 2017. Then, take a few minutes for meditation and integration.
Day 7: Celebration and Transition
Clarify your Intention for the New Year and celebrate lfe with gratitude, compassion and inspiration.
