Turn Your Bedroom Into a Self-Care Sanctuary

While some parts of your home may become hectic from time to time, especially if you have a family with kids, the sanctity of your bedroom should never be put in question. It’s where you can unwind after even the most stressful days, a place where you can in some well deserved self-care rituals.
This is why it’s important that your bedroom is decorated in accordance with your preferences and desires. Everything in it should be dedicated to nourishing your mind, body and soul. If you’re not quite sure how to achieve that, here are some wonderful ideas to guide you.
Utilize light
Whether a room appears bright or gloomy depends mostly on the light, so make the best of your windows by putting translucent curtains on them and keeping any bigger and taller pieces of furniture away from them. And although natural light may be the first thing that pops into your mind, not all of us have huge windows on the sunny side of our homes. If that’s an issue for you, you can solve it with several different light fixtures.
Aside from the overhead lights, you could also get a few lamps and use bulbs of different wattages as well as dimmers to set the mood in your room. Throw in some candles and you’ll be on a good way to create your own sacred place in your bedroom.
Make it luxurious
For your bedroom to feel warmer and cozier, but also modern and perhaps even lavish, all you need to do is add a few smart accessories. For instance, you’ll go a long way towards luxury if you invest in a plush mattress, a few cushions and soft new bedding you’ll love to feel against your skin when going to bed in the evening.
It’s important that the mattress suits your needs and that you can sleep well, since restful and interrupted sleep can help you boost your energy and overall health. Plus, you’ll be more cheerful throughout the day and snug once you get back to your stress-free sanctuary of a bedroom in the evening or in the afternoon, for a quick nap.
Make it greener
Spending time outdoors, in nature, is relaxing and healthy, so try to bring some part of that into your bedroom. Several potted plants will do the trick, as they may help you purify the air in the room, improve your concentration and productivity and lower your stress levels.
Add to this the fact that plants are very decorative and you’ll actually enrich your personal space by introducing some green to it. If you’re worried about not being able to care for your plants properly, find a florist near you and ask them for advice on low-maintenance plants.
Be mindful about art
Another way to make your bedroom more inviting and suitable to your character is through art. For instance, a nice big vase or a small statue you brought from one of your trips may be excellent decorative elements, ones which remind you of something you truly enjoyed. And don’t forget your walls, since wall art can be breathtakingly beautiful and can give a dash of personality to any room.
One good example are custom print canvases, which come in a variety of themes and can contain names or pictures of your loved ones. Such wall art can easily be found online and can turn any space into your own in a blink, since you only have to look at those amazing canvases to remember what really matters in life and to calm yourself down when you’re upset.
Declutter and organize
Piling up trinkets, gadgets, books and even furniture in your bedroom is something you should avoid. This is supposed to be a place where you can recollect and practice self-care daily, and you can’t really do that if there’s clutter around you. Actually, that kind of mess can even make you more nervous and anxious.
So, clean your room, get rid of anything that you don’t need, use or care for, and take some time to organize what’s left. Sort out your closet and your drawers, and you’ll see that there’s more space there than you thought you’ll have. If necessary, buy a few decorative boxes for your smaller belongings. That way they’ll be out of sight, the space will be tidier and you’ll know exactly when to find them when you need them.
A home should be a place you love coming back to, a place where you feel safe and comfortable, especially your bedroom. So, if you haven’t turned it into a self-care sanctuary you’ve always wanted it to be, remember, there’s no time like the present.
