Why So Many of Us Feel Drained: A Conversation with Kelly Kolodney

Editor’s introduction

Kelly Kolodney, known as “The Angel Lady,” speaks here about why so many people feel drained even when nothing is wrong, the small daily practices she believes matter most, and what four decades of channeling Archangel Raphael have taught her about healing.

A lot of people right now say they feel drained or scattered even when nothing is obviously wrong. What do you think is going on underneath that?

Many people spend their entire day disconnected from the natural rhythms of life and from the flow of their personal energy field. They wake up, work inside under artificial light, spend hours on a computer, drive home in traffic, and then sit in front of a television to unwind, often without ever stepping outside or placing their bare feet on the Earth, which would help ground them.

This way of living is simply not natural. Even when nothing particularly stressful is happening, people are often overstimulated by constant information coming at them from every direction while at the same time feeling disconnected from nature, from themselves, and from authentic relationships.

Raphael teaches that healing begins by tuning in to our energy field. Through conscious presence, we reconnect with one another and begin restoring a right relationship with the living Earth. As we slow down and reconnect with nature, our nervous system naturally begins to settle, and we remember that we are part of something much greater than ourselves, and that the connection runs deep when we explore it.

Your path began in 1989, after an experience you describe as the start of an ongoing connection with Archangel Raphael. What happened, and how did it change the way you live and work?

I experienced a spontaneous spiritual awakening in 1989. At the time, I was a young college student simply going to classes and living an ordinary life.

My brother-in-law, Dr. Arno Burnier, was one of the pioneers of what was then called Network Chiropractic. On weekends, my boyfriend at the time, who is now my husband of over 30 years, and I would drive an hour to my sister’s home in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where Dr. Burnier would perform what were called “clear-outs.”

I would lie on the chiropractic table while he gently touched my sacrum and the base of my skull. Almost immediately, a powerful surge of energy would move through my spine. Waves of emotion would release from my body, and afterward, when he lightly touched my heart, I would naturally move into a posture of complete surrender.

In those moments, I experienced a profound state of bliss, as though I was one with everything. I wasn’t the only one having these experiences. My husband and two of my sisters were experiencing them as well.

Over time, these experiences became stronger until one day I became aware of an incredibly loving and beautiful presence beside me. It is difficult to describe with words. The presence remained with me and grew stronger over time.

Then, after one of our clear-outs, my two sisters and I went to our family home for Thanksgiving dinner. During that gathering, this profound presence came through my sister MaryEllen and began speaking. It identified itself as the Angel Raphael.

We were completely shocked. Raised in a Catholic family, none of us knew what to make of what was happening.

Several days later, Raphael also began speaking through me. I have been channeling ever since.

Since Raphael entered my life, it has been filled with extraordinary love, grace, healing, synchronicities, and what I can only describe as magic.

That doesn’t mean life has been without challenges. I’ve certainly had my share. But I have met those challenges in a completely different way because I have always felt Raphael walking beside me.

Many people carry emotional stress without realizing it. What are the everyday signs that someone is holding more than they know?

Often we are living with so much stress that we no longer recognize it. We’ve become so accustomed to our busy modern lives that we don’t realize how out of balance we’ve become until life forces us to slow down.

Some of the signs are feeling overwhelmed, constantly anxious, unable to be still, or finding that your mind never seems to stop. Many people only know how to quiet themselves through distraction or entertainment.

We have been conditioned to believe that our value comes from being productive, that somehow we are only worthy if we are constantly accomplishing something.

In that striving, we’ve forgotten how to simply be: to love one another, to spend time with the people who matter, to appreciate the beauty that is already here. We keep believing happiness is just around the next corner, after the promotion, after losing ten pounds, after reaching the next goal.

Raphael reminds us that everything we truly need becomes more readily available to us when we live in the present moment.

why we feel drained

When we come into a deep state of presence and begin accepting this moment exactly as it is, we naturally step back into the flow of life. We stop trying so hard, and instead begin aligning with life itself.

The Light Code transmissions are designed to help people remember how to do exactly that.

You talk about “Light Code” transmissions. For someone who has never heard the term, what are they and what do they actually feel like?

The Light Codes are a body of vibrational upgrades that I received from the Angel Raphael over many years.

Each Master Ascension Light Code is experienced over a three-week journey. During that time, I channel Raphael live over Zoom, guiding participants through his teachings on that Light Code, followed by a live energetic transmission.

Each Light Code gently guides us into higher states of consciousness where we reconnect with our true divine nature and activate what Raphael calls our Light Body.

People often describe the experience as feeling deeply peaceful, expansive, loving, and profoundly familiar, as though they are remembering something they have always known. Many find that long-held emotional patterns begin to release, their hearts open, and new possibilities become visible in their lives.

Ultimately, the Light Codes help each of us remember our unique blueprint and the gifts we came here to share with the world, whatever form they may take.

In your experience, what most often gets in the way of people trusting their own intuition?

Many of us learned early in life that someone else knew better than we did. We were taught to look outside ourselves for answers, to authority figures, teachers, institutions, or experts. Over time we began doubting our own inner knowing.

Raphael teaches that the power to answer every question we truly seek to solve already exists within us.

Raphael helps people quiet the noise, reconnect with their hearts, and rediscover the authentic inner wisdom that has been there all along.

You often speak about “unity consciousness.” Setting the spiritual language aside for a moment, what does that look like in an ordinary day?

Unity consciousness is actually very simple.

  • Slowing down enough to truly see another person.
  • Listening instead of preparing your next response.
  • Treating nature as something sacred rather than something separate from yourself.
  • Recognizing that every choice we make ripples outward and affects the whole.

When we begin living from that awareness, kindness becomes natural, compassion becomes effortless, and we remember that we are all deeply connected, even on levels that are not consciously apparent.

For someone in the middle of a big life change right now, what is the first thing you would want them to understand?

I would want them to know that what they are experiencing is happening for them, even if right now it feels painful, confusing, or even tragic.

Raphael teaches that the Universe truly has our back.

spiritual awakening

Often behind our greatest heartbreak is the doorway to our greatest awakening. Whatever you are moving through today will not last forever.

If you can meet this moment with love, acceptance, and trust, healing begins. New doors open that you couldn’t previously see. The magic returns.

One of the greatest lessons Raphael has taught me is learning to let go, trust the unfolding, and allow life to reveal its deeper gifts.

What are one or two simple practices someone could start today to feel calmer and more settled?

Begin with your breath.

Simply slow down and become aware that you are breathing.

Then create a small morning practice that belongs only to you.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Spend a few quiet moments in meditation, step outside into nature, place your bare feet on the Earth and feel what it does to your energy field, or simply sit in stillness with your heart.

Every time you do this, you are sending your body, mind, and soul a beautiful message:

“I am worthy of being cared for. I am worthy of love.”

Sometimes the smallest daily practices create the greatest transformation.

After nearly four decades of this work, what still surprises you about how people heal and change?

Over the years, I have received thousands of letters and testimonials describing extraordinary healing and profound transformation through Raphael’s work.

What continues to surprise me is that these people were never somehow special or different. The miracle wasn’t that they possessed something unique. It was that they became willing to truly open, to let go, to allow, and to receive the love that had always been there waiting for them.

I believe healing has always been available.

Sometimes all that changes is our willingness to receive it.

In our latest essay, Maria Ushakova traces Jung’s path of individuation, the slow work of coming to know your own depths, and asks what becomes of our mental health when we look for meaning only in comfort, recognition, and wealth.

Asked late in life whether he believed in God, Jung answered: „I don’t need to believe. I know.“ ✨

In a new conversation for Just Breathe Mag, Dr. Peter Moosbrugger of @sonnenberg.health.hotel explains why illness so often takes hold long before we feel it, and what it means to start listening to the body earlier.

Sonnenberg Health Hotel is a healing hotel set high in the Swiss Appenzell hills, 972 metres above the village of Schwellbrunn. Rooted in the Biological Medicine of Dr. med. Thomas Rau, it treats the body’s own ability to regulate and regenerate as the centre of every stay. Clean mountain air and deep quiet meet a purely plant-based, gluten-free kitchen and a medicine that looks for the cause rather than the symptom.

There is a quiet moment, somewhere after the secon There is a quiet moment, somewhere after the second or third day of fasting, when the body lets go of glucose and turns to ketones instead. Something shifts. Hunger softens. The mind clears. And the noise of constant eating gives way to a deeper kind of listening.

Just Breathe Mag’s latest article follows that shift with the physicians of Marienkron Retreat and Health Resort, Dr. Ulrike Göschl and Dr. Martin Krizmanits, who gently separate what fasting truly offers from the myths that cling to it: the fear of starvation, the harsh detoxes, the truth about coffee, and why longevity is less about how long we live and more about how fully.

Yet modern medicine speaks of neurobiology, hormones, emotional regulation, and inherited traits. The soul has quietly left the conversation.

In part three of her worldview therapy series, Maria Ushakova returns to the questions psychology set aside. What lies beneath instinct, feeling, affect, and desire? And where do the roots of psychological suffering truly begin?
