Conscious Resting
© Rodolfo Sanches Carvalho
We have all been touched in one way or the other by the stresses of the past years. And most of us are not used to coping with such high levels of stress for so long. Now, even if your mind has settled somewhat, your body is likely still recovering from the shock and trauma brought on by the Covid situation.
If you feel exhausted and/or depleted remember that the residue of trauma remains in the cells of the body for some time. You may find various supports, such as massages, yoga and so on to help you. And you can opt to retreat with the intention of conscious resting. Feel into yourself what conscious resting means to you.
How can you give yourself some conscious rest?
To me, it’s not a luxury but an essential tool to help me recover fully. Without giving time for deep rest it will be very difficult to welcome in the fresh new energies that are so much needed now. Fully feeling and accepting the tiredness within will help the body tap into its renewable energy resources.
Meditation will guide you into a deep rest which allows you to reconnect to deeper parts of yourself. Yoga Nidra is also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. It’s usually practiced lying down. The practice draws our attention inwards, and we learn to surf between the states of wakefulness and sleep, where our body finds its natural state of equilibrium (homeostasis) – the breath balances and becomes quiet, unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves, and we fall into an innate state of deep, blissful awareness.
