Self-Discovery: Do I Truly Understand Myself?

Life has a way of nudging us towards our destinies often through unexpected events. It may manifest as a sudden job loss, the profound challenges of illness, the heart-wrenching loss of loved ones, or even the turbulent state of world affairs. We invariably begin to question our existence which can lead to a fundamental enquiry: “Do I genuinely know myself?”

Interestingly, as humans, we possess an inherent curiosity about others, yet we frequently hesitate to embark on the inward journey of self-discovery. Fear of what we might uncover about our authentic selves acts as a barrier, inhibiting us from this sacred voyage.

However, amid the adversities we face, a seed of transformation quietly sprouts. It marks the initiation of an inner journey, one where our aim is to comprehend the intricate workings of our thoughts, emotions, and the profound impact of our past experiences.

Too often, we deny ourselves the gift of self-discovery, despite the fact that the most significant relationship to master is the one with ourselves.

A Journey Within

The journey of self-discovery may initially appear daunting, especially in a world where we are so deeply immersed in external activities, endless to-do lists, and the pursuit of our aspirations, turning inwards often gives rise to feelings of resistance.

But.

It remains undeniably the most crucial voyage one can embark on in life. It paves the way for profound personal growth through deeper understanding of oneself.

True growth and fulfillment reside in the embrace of the challenges and uncertainties that accompany self-discovery.

Going on a journey to self-discovery

We often find ourselves entangled in the roles we play, the masks we wear, and the ambitions we relentlessly pursue. It is beneath these layers that our core being, our genuine self, patiently awaits recognition and acceptance. It is in this recognition that we truly begin to live our lives, and where joy and inner peace quietly await us.

No one can grant us permission to explore and liberate ourselves but ourselves.

The Courage for Healing

The journey of self-awareness necessitates confronting our insecurities, embracing our vulnerabilities, and freeing ourselves from the illusions that have held us captive. It is a common challenge because we are unaware of what we don’t know.

It requires courage to shed our old selves, heal our wounds, and allow our true selves to flourish.

Your personal journey is a testament to the power of self-awareness and the courage to explore the unknown. From the depths of darkness, you can unearth your inner light, and from the depths of pain, you can discover your inner strength.

The act of knowing oneself is not a destination; it is a continuous journey. It is a gift from you – from life – to yourself, and it is by no means a selfish act. Instead, it equips you to give to others with an open heart and to radiate your light wherever you go.

Do I Truly Know Myself?

Pause for a moment and enquire within, “Do I truly know myself?” The answer may not reveal itself immediately, but deep within your heart, you will feel the truth calling out to you. Embrace this ever-evolving journey with an open heart, for in this sacred voyage, you’ll unlock the freedom to manifest your most authentic self. In this realm – in complete acceptance of the tapestry of existence – life converges with you in the most profound manner.

Remember, you are not alone in this odyssey of self-discovery. Humanity as a whole grapples with the same questions, as we all seek inner peace and purpose in life. Embrace the beauty of imperfection, for it is through our flaws that the light of wisdom truly shines.

know yourself

As you deepen your journey of self-discovery, be mindful that the currents of life may lead you to uncharted waters. Yet, it is in these unexplored territories that you will uncover the essence of your being.

Release the illusions, surrender to the flow, and trust in the wisdom of your heart. Your true self inherently knows the way home and is ready to guide you; all you need to do is embrace the journey with courage, grace, and trust.

Navigate your journey of self-discovery

Considering the transformative nature of self-reflection, here are three practical actions you can take:

I. Journaling:

Keeping a journal can be a powerful tool for self-reflection. Write down your thoughts, emotions, and experiences to explore your inner self. Through this practice, you may identify patterns, gain clarity about your emotions and insight into your true self. Make it a daily ritual to write about your thoughts and observations. Over time, you may discover a deeper understanding of yourself emerging from the pages.

II. Prioritise Self-Exploration. Prioritise Yourself:

In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to be swept away by external demands. Set aside dedicated time for introspection and self-exploration. Whether through meditation, mindfulness, or simply basking in contemplation, these moments of solitude offer a chance to connect with your inner universe. By regularly reserving time to tune into your thoughts and feelings, you can forge a deeper connection with your authentic self which is ready to speak to you.

III. Seeking Guidance & Community:

While the journey of self-discover can be challenging and lonely at times, it is also a deeply rewarding and enriching path. Seeking guidance or support from trusted mentors, or therapists can be invaluable. Engaging in conversations or communities sharing the same interest can provide new perspectives and insights about yourself to aid in your self-discovery process. Do not hesitate to reach out and share your journey with those who can help you navigate it.

finding your inner truth

Remember that the path to self-discovery is a unique and deeply personal journey. Embrace it with an open heart and a willingness to learn and grow. As you delve deeper into your inner world, you’ll not only come to know yourself better but also witness your own transformation, much like a flower blossoming and bathing in its own inner joy. You’ll open yourself to your inner strength and courage, allowing you to be your most authentic self in all aspects of your life. Your journey will lead to remarkable transformations, and you’ll shine as a guiding star of authenticity for both yourself and others.

Sending you the highest life and love.

Until next time,

Claudia

Kelly Kolodney, known as „The Angel Lady,“ has spent nearly four decades helping people find their way back to their own inner knowing.

In a new conversation for Just Breathe Mag, she speaks about the exhaustion so many of us carry without naming it, the small practices that begin to settle a restless mind, and what it takes to trust yourself again.

In our latest essay, Maria Ushakova traces Jung’s path of individuation, the slow work of coming to know your own depths, and asks what becomes of our mental health when we look for meaning only in comfort, recognition, and wealth.

Asked late in life whether he believed in God, Jung answered: „I don’t need to believe. I know.“ ✨

In a new conversation for Just Breathe Mag, Dr. Peter Moosbrugger of @sonnenberg.health.hotel explains why illness so often takes hold long before we feel it, and what it means to start listening to the body earlier.

Sonnenberg Health Hotel is a healing hotel set high in the Swiss Appenzell hills, 972 metres above the village of Schwellbrunn. Rooted in the Biological Medicine of Dr. med. Thomas Rau, it treats the body’s own ability to regulate and regenerate as the centre of every stay. Clean mountain air and deep quiet meet a purely plant-based, gluten-free kitchen and a medicine that looks for the cause rather than the symptom.

There is a quiet moment, somewhere after the secon There is a quiet moment, somewhere after the second or third day of fasting, when the body lets go of glucose and turns to ketones instead. Something shifts. Hunger softens. The mind clears. And the noise of constant eating gives way to a deeper kind of listening.

Just Breathe Mag’s latest article follows that shift with the physicians of Marienkron Retreat and Health Resort, Dr. Ulrike Göschl and Dr. Martin Krizmanits, who gently separate what fasting truly offers from the myths that cling to it: the fear of starvation, the harsh detoxes, the truth about coffee, and why longevity is less about how long we live and more about how fully.

Psychology, in its original meaning, is the study Psychology, in its original meaning, is the study of the soul.

Yet modern medicine speaks of neurobiology, hormones, emotional regulation, and inherited traits. The soul has quietly left the conversation.

In part three of her worldview therapy series, Maria Ushakova returns to the questions psychology set aside. What lies beneath instinct, feeling, affect, and desire? And where do the roots of psychological suffering truly begin?

A reflection on ontological tendencies and the layers of the psyche.
